Mainland China’s novel coronavirus death toll has hit 1,523 at the end of Friday, Feb. 14.
This was after the hardest-hit province of Hubei reported 139 new fatalities, the country’s National Health Commission reported.

Hubei saw 2,420 new confirmed Covid-19 infections, about half the number from the previous day.
There were more than 4,800 cases reported in Hubei by end of Thursday, which was initially reported as 5,090 but revisions have been made.
Cases "clinically diagnosed" through lung imaging are now counted in addition to those that have shown up positive in laboratory tests.
The broadening of the definition of what constitutes an infection added nearly 15,000 patients to Hubei's tally on Thursday.
There are now 66,492 confirmed cases in Chinese mainland, another 56 in Hong Kong, 10 in Macau and 18 in Taiwan.
A total of 8,096 have been discharged from hospital.
The World Health Organisation noted that cases go back weeks were retroactively counted.

Currently, over four-fifths of the Hubei province’s new cases were in the capital of Wuhan.
