Covid-19: 161 new cases in South Korea & 7th death, total at 763 confirmed cases

South Korea has reported 161 new confirmed cases on Feb. 24 morning.

This brings the total confirmed cases thus far to 763.

The health authorities also reported that another infected patient linked to the hospital in Cheongdo, a 62-year-old man, died from Covid-19 on Sunday.

This is the 7th Covid-19 related death reported in South Korea..

A majority of the new cases reported this morning are from southeastern city of Daegu.

Out of 161 new cases, 142 are in Daegu where the outbreak broke out from a fringe religious fraction based in Daegu.

Three newly reported cases are from Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

So far, more than half of the cases are linked to the church.

The two main Covid-19 clusters in South Korea are the church in Daegu and the Daenam hospital in neighbouring Cheongdo.

South Korea announced on Sunday, Feb. 23 that it has decided to raise its alert level to “red”, the highest level.

In response to the increase in the number of confirmed cases in South Korea, Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) issued a travel advisory in a press release on Feb. 23.

MOH has advised travellers to avoid “non-essential” travel to Daegu and Cheongdo, and to exercise caution when travelling to the rest of South Korea.
