Readers of a certain vintage would remember Hong Kong comedian Lydia Shum.

With her dark-rimmed glasses and signature bouffant, Shum was one of the most well-loved comedians of her era.

Sadly, Shum passed away on Feb. 19 in 2008 due to liver cancer at the age of 62.

She left behind a daughter, Joyce Cheng, who is a singer.

Moving tribute on how life would be if Shum is still alive

On Feb. 19, Cheng wrote a poignant post on Instagram as a tribute to Shum.

Cheng imagined what life would be like today if Shum is still living with her.

Shum would probably take a while to learn how to use Netflix and might even fall for misinformation spreading via WhatsApp group chats, Cheng wrote.

She also said that Shum would probably not bear to let her go to Japan for a month to take classes but she would be secretly happy that daughter is a driven person.

Cheng expressed her longing for her mother even though 12 years have passed. "I'll never get over losing you," she wrote.

Shum's ability to bring laughter and joy as a comedian would be sorely needed right now, as Hong Kong is devastated by months of protests and the outbreak of Covid-19.

"I imagine Hong Kong would need your magic now. But guess what? We can always find you again through the work that you left us with. Your music, your movies, your talk-shows... Thank you again for giving your life to entertainment. You truly are a legend."
