'Friends' cast to officially reunite for HBO Max special in May 2020

It's official: Joey, Phoebe, Rachel, Ross, Chandler, and Monica are reuniting 15 years after "Friends", the wildly popular American sitcom, aired its last episode in 2004.

Cast to return to Stage 24

According to a press release by WarnerMedia Group, the cast (consisting of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer) will be reuniting for an untitled, unscripted special for HBO Max.

HBO Max is WarnerMedia's direct-to-consumer streaming platform which will debut in May 2020.

The cast will return to Stage 24 on the Warner Bro. Studio lot in Burbank where most of the 10 seasons of "Friends" were filmed.

This unscripted reunion special will be available to HBO Max subscribers along with all 236 episodes of "Friends" from May 2020.

The show's original executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane will executive produce the show along with Ben Winston, who will be directing it.

Aniston, Cox, Kudrow, LeBlanc, Perry, and Schwimmer will also executive produce the special.

Stars to receive at least S$3.5 million each

According to Variety, stars will receive at least US$2.5 million (S$3.5 million) each for starring in the special.

Variety added that third-party market researchers said that "Friends" is one of Netflix's most-watched shows.

BBC reports that HBO Max has secured the rights to "Friends" entire back catalogue for US$425 million (S$594 million).
