American actress Amber Heard, 33, and her former husband, Johnny Depp, 56, have been making headlines recently.

Heard had initially accused Depp of domestic violence during their marriage.

In 2018, she went on to write an op-ed for Washington Post about being a survivor of domestic abuse.

Depp suffered heavy repercussions from the op-ed.

He lost his famed role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise by Disney.

She allegedly abused him

However, things took a turn when it was recently revealed that Heard was allegedly the abuser in the relationship.

In an audio recording that was leaked online, Heard admitted to striking Depp with pots and pans.

She also threw vases at him.

In addition, Heard threw a bottle that exploded and allegedly cut off a chunk of Depp's finger.

She also allegedly put out a cigarette on his face.

In response, Depp has filed a US$50 million (S$69 million) defamation lawsuit against Heard for her op-ed piece.

Online petition to remove her from Aquaman 2

Fans were outraged to find out that Heard had allegedly lied all along.

An online petition was launched, calling for her to be removed from her role as Mera in Aquaman 2.

As of the time of writing, the petition has received over 195,000 signatures, just shy of its 200,000 target.

Those who signed viewed Heard as an abusive liar and should be kicked out of any film production she is in.

Others merely wanted justice for Depp.

Meanwhile, a few domestic abuse survivors shared their thoughts on the issue too.

Jeanne Larson, the creator of the petition, wrote:

“As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project. They must not ignore the suffering of Heard's victims, and must not glamorise a domestic abuser. Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognised, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry. Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2."
