Yishunites would have heard of veteran Hong Kong actor Benz Hui moving into their neck of the woods.

Hui, who is a Singapore permanent resident, is taking the next step forward: He is applying to become a Singapore citizen.

From PR to citizen

In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, the actor revealed that he will formally apply for a Singapore citizenship, after receiving a citizenship application letter.

Hui met his wife in Singapore while working here in the 1980s, and the couple’s daughter Charmaine Hui was born in Singapore before the family moved to Hong Kong.

Now, the family resides in a six-room bungalow in Yishun, which cost them S$4 million in renovation costs.

Hui and his family considered the country a good place to retire.

The TVB star said that there were very few criminals in Singapore, making Singapore possibly the safest place in the world, Shin Min Daily News reported.

Invited MP Lee Bee Wah to dinner

It seems that Hui and his family are also very warm and welcoming to residents in the area.

Nee Soon GRC MP Lee Bee Wah posted on Facebook on June 28 that the family invited neighbours to their home for dinner, speaking fondly about how their neighbours helped out during the renovation of their house.

In her post, she included two photos taken with the Hui family and the gathering of neighbours over dinner.

Lee wrote:

Nice evening with our new residents, Benz Hui and family. They invited their neighbours to their home for a nice home cooked dinner. They spoke fondly about how their neighbours helped them during their house renovation. Lots of kampung spirit!

Previously, Lee also broke the news on Hui and his family's move into Nee Soon GRC, taking a group photo with the family near their private home, which is situated within Lee's constituency.

Maybe we'll see him attending the next National Day Parade.
