The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) - one of seven parties conducting eight rallies smack in the middle of election campaign period - conducted its third rally next to Commonwealth MRT yesterday (Sep 5).

The rally wasn’t the quotable quotes machine it was on Sep 4, nor did it rouse the crowd like the party's inaugural rally - but a large number of people went anyway.

And they were all:

There was also a queue after the rally to get Singapore Democratic Party Sec- Gen Chee Soon Juan's autographs for his books.

“I just want to hear what the SDP has to say. I think (Dr Chee) is a very intelligent man, but I do have regard (of) what he says about the polices as well."

“I think everyone deserves a second chance - the SDP has made some quiet improvements over the years.”

2. Viju, 43, IT manager

“We are going to the rallies to see what each of the leaders have to say… I think they are kind of transforming the party compared to before. It’s a change, it’s refreshing, to see that there’s a more credible opposition.”

3. Lee Choong Onn, director of an investment company

“I think they have connected (to the people) - look at the crowd."

(On Dr Chee returning to stand for election) “I welcome that, and I think it’s the start of the next 50 years for Singapore. We need people like him, who are truly committed to talk about democracy, to be given a chance to come forward to serve… he’s a man who waited for 15 years, for the time to come out, for new media to come out, to shine light to Singapore.”

4. Chris Khew, 23, undergraduate

(On Dr Chee returning to stand for election) “I think it’s quite courageous to still want to contest the election despite everything that you’ve been through."
